![]() Weekend Wrap-Up: Pirates Sinks Lower with $78.47 million, Takes 2017 With It Even if Dunkirk has better legs than expected, there’s little hope 2017 will win in the year-over-year comparison. This weekend last year, Jason Bourne opened with nearly $60 million, which will likely be more than both new releases this year earn. This does give Dunkirk a real shot at repeating on top of the chart. I haven’t seen buzz this negative since Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul. The Emoji Movie still has no reviews and its buzz is incredibly negative. Atomic Blonde’s reviews are excellent and its connections to the John Wick movies could get people into theaters. Neither are expected to be monster hits, but both could be profitable at the box office. The final weekend of July has two wide releases, Atomic Blonde and The Emoji Movie. Weekend Predictions: Atomic Blonde and The Emoji Movie Take On Dunkirk There are also two co-winners of the Puck of the Week for best Canadian release, Colossal on Blu-ray Combo Pack and I am the Blues on DVD. This includes Slither: Collector's Edition, which took home the title in a close race. In fact, there are six Pick of the Week contenders. ![]() There is no monster hit coming out this week, but that doesn’t mean there are no new DVD / Blu-rays worth picking up. Home Market Releases for August 1st, 2017 There are a couple of other contenders, including Cinematic Titanic: The Complete Collection and Re-Animator: Limited Edition 2-Disc Blu-ray, but in the end, I went with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Granted, it is only out on Video on Demand this week, but it is still a contender for Pick of the Week. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is the first of the summer monster hits to come out on the home market. Summer has likely ended at the box office, while it is about to begin on the home market. Home Market Releases for August 8th, 2017 Figures will therefore fluctuate each week, and totals for individual titles can go up or down as we update our estimates.īecause sales figures are estimated based on sampling, they will be more accurate for higher-selling titles. In particular, we adjust weekly sales figures for the quarter once the total market estimates are published by the Digital Entertainment Group. We refine our estimates from week to week as more data becomes available. The consumer spending estimate is based on the average sales price for the title in the retailers we survey. The market share is converted into a weekly sales estimate based on industry reports on the overall size of the market, including reports published in Media Play News.įor example, if our weekly retail survey estimates that a particular title sold 1% of all units that week, and the industry reports sales of 1,500,000 units in total, we will estimate 15,000 units were sold of that title. ![]() Our DVD and Blu-ray sales estimates are based on weekly retail surveys, which we use to build a weekly market share estimate for each title we are tracking.
